My name is Heather Kilpatrick. I'm 33 years old and I'm from Michigan. I receive all my treatment and care at/from University of Michigan Hospital. In 2013, I was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia and through many trials and tribulations, I was brought to this point in treatment where a bone marrow transplant is not only the best option but the absolutely necessary one.
I have one brother who was tested to be a match for me. He was not a match, but in checking the donor registry, my nurse coordinator found 35 perfect matches for me and is now in the process of contacting them all and narrowing down 35 matches to one absolute best match for me.
A personal account of what it's like to go through an allogeneic Bone Marrow Transplant (start to finish). How it feels, any side effects, appointments, questions, answers, and everything in between.
